My Simply Music Story
I have been playing the piano for years, yet never found teaching piano to my own children to be a successful experience. We'd jump in, work on notes, and beats, but before I knew it, we fizzled out. It was boring and tedious for everyone! ( I was taught traditionally and did not know that there was another way.) One of my writing student's mother introduced me to Simply Music. ("Thank you Susan!") For me, it was an instant HIT! My girls are fighting over their piano time. :).. Musical mom's dream come true!
The method is AMAZING!
From my perspective, the simply music method is incredibly architectural and consistent with my art and architecture courses and the IEW writing courses in regards to the basic premise of giving students tools and building upon them. The method relies on patterns, shapes and structure. Students do not even begin to read music until the second or third year, yet they are playing 35-50 songs in the first year. The method includes multiple components such as classical and blues pieces as well as accompaniments, arrangements, variations and composition. It is the entire "package" and creates lifetime musicians.
I devoured the information and became a licensed teacher. I am so very excited to share this program with my students. Behind the scenes, I am back to my college days of combining disciplines. Combining music, art and architecture, dance and writing (and other subjects) has become somewhat of a lifelong thesis that draws me in consistently. Currently, I am working on a series of combo courses for my "2018-19 Year of the Arts" students! They are in store for some fantastic experiences!
I can not recommend this program enough. Whether you decide to take lessons online (easily possible) or you find a simply music teacher in your area... there is just not a better program around for teaching kids to love learning to play music.
