This EXCITING, INCREDIBLE, AND LONG AWAITED, NINE-LESSON course was designed for students who have completed the Introduction to Architecture Course. Throughout this course, students will design their own homes!. In each lesson, we will concentrate on designing and personalizing a specific room of our homes. Students will be expected to design each room in plan, interior elevations, and model, plan the interior decorating for each room, and create a shopping budget for everything they plan to include in their homes. By the end of the course, students will have designed a home tailored to their personal tastes and will have an approximation of the cost of decorating their homes.
This course presents more specific architectural and mathematical challenges for students interested in learning about architecture and interior design. This course does not require the papers of Introduction to Architecture or Advanced Architecture 1 or 3, but there will be plenty of work to challenge students.
Students may create their models using SketchUp, AutoCAD, Minecraft, Legos, Wood, Paper, Cardboard, or any other preferred medium. Their preference needs to be consistent throughout the entire course.
This nine-lesson course may be taken asynchronously through websites and emails. Students must fully complete each lesson before proceeding to the next one. The course may be taken over 9 or 18 weeks, with due dates available on a weekly, every-other-week, or Zoom schedule basis.
(AYOP Schedules may be revised as necessary with parental permission, but deadlines are encouraged.
This course is highly individualized. Emailed reviews and grades provide students the opportunity to grow and excel according to their abilities.
Students should expect to work on the course for 6-10 hours per lesson.
Usually, 1/2 high school credit is suggested (based on 90 hours of coursework). The work in this course will provide significant work for college applications.
