Brilliant Building "Blocks"
Cecilia is taking an Iconography camp with Mrs. Randi Sider-Rose through St. Raphael School - Schole Academy. She is learning a bunch and is having a good time learning how to pain icons of some of her favorite saints. Mrs. Randi Sider-Rose even offers courses for ADULTS! I am not a painter by trade, but I am taking her Apprenticeship 1 Course this fall.. and I am sooo EXCITED to be learning something new! I'll keep you updated as I go, but if you are so inspired, I think she still has room. She also has an Apprenticeship 1 course for high school students and a couple of workshops for kids 10-18. Check out the courses HERE - Scroll down for the heading "Sacred Arts".
Peace and Joy be with you!
Just wanted to touch base:).
So... 2020.. almost enough said... ;)!
A lot changed for us. Six of our nine kiddos jumped into the world of adulthood and moved out when we moved.
New home, fewer children in the house and well (like many others). We are finding a "new normal".
Extra time.... and well
Mrs. G. met Facebook! and Pinterest and Instagram !!!
(ok.. I have not done much on any of the platforms yet.. but look out.. things are in motion! :)
What a new world for me!
Because of Facebook, I met Matt Tommey. His teaching affirmed my motivations. I started by taking with his "Created to Thrive Course" which led to me joining his "Created to Thrive Mentoring Program". I am learning so much about being an Artist for the Kingdom as well as a teacher and business owner. My experience with "Created to Thrive" was Holy Spirit led and continues to be a huge blessing every day! (One which I hope I will pass on to my students:). His podcast is FABULOUS!! Click HERE:)
Matt's team lead me to Heather Heuman from Sweet Tea Marketing ... who is coaching me on the best way to use social media for business. (Kudos to Heather for encouraging my video introduction on the welcome page and any photos of me that you might see in the near future.. oh and my new commitment to this blog;). I love Zooming with your children, but in real life.. with adults... I'm working on being in front of the camera;)!
Heather and Matt are helping:)!
As Building Brilliant Minds continues to grow and thrive and as I jump back into the world of being an Artist, I ask you to keep me in your prayers, like things I post on social media (if you do) and gee.. leave reviews if you have something nice to say about me or one of my classes:).
I am super psyched for 2021-22! I get to teach and to create artistically this year!
I get to help your children learn to develop the tools to use their talents too!
To God be the Glory!
My children and I are thoroughly enjoying "Intro to Filmmaking" by FILM SCHOOL FOR TEENS!
We are about half way through the course and WOW! We've learned a bunch! We'v been watching most of the suggested movies as a family over the weekends. On Mondays, my kiddos are excited to watch the next video lesson and the movie reviews! (Some of the movies are not appropriate for my younger children, but we've added a special movie for them to make it work;). The movie reviews are excellent. Damon really helps students see beyond the "entertainment". The ability to find meaning and take away truths form a story is best taught in a variety of ways. The "Intro to Filmmaking" experience could be equivalent to (or would definitely enhance) a "Literary Analysis" course, or a creative writing course. This could perhaps be one of the most fabulous project based integrated learning courses yet! (Building Brilliant Minds Courses fit in that category too - of course:).
Damon shares the tools of movie making in the first half of the course. That part sometimes seems slow (in regards to we're not out shooting movies right way), but it is so necessary and he makes it FUN! It reminds me of "Introduction to Architecture" in that the first few lessons gives students the tools before the final lessons which allow them to use the tools to design a specified project.
We are just getting started with the last half of the course and are anticipating and excited for the film assignment in our next lesson. I'll update again in the next few weeks.
This course has gone above and beyond my expectations! I encourage you to try it out with your teens or with a group of teens.
